    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. During inspection Licensing observed: - Children beddings on the sleep mats were touching other beddings. - Electrical cord in one infant and toddler classroom was within children's reach. Manager removed it during inspection

    Corrective action. Manager said mats will be stored in a manner that children's beddings are not touching each other.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

    Observation. One staff file contained a valid criminal record clearance letter addressed to another agency.

    Corrective action. During inspection Manager applied for this staff's CRC through the CRRP Sharing program.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. During inspection, Licensing observed several areas of the walls at children's height with peeling paint and exposed drywall.

    Corrective action. The manager said exposed drywall will be made inaccessible to children; and a plan will be submitted to Licensing for repairing the walls.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Six staff files were reviewed; one staff member's recently renewed certificate had not been verified through the Early Childhood Educator Registry. Manager corrected this during inspection.

    Corrective action. Manager said that all renewed certificates will be verified through the Early Childhood Educator Registry.

    Observation. Upon inspection, there were: -2 playpens that had ripped mesh on the sides -shelving with stacked items on top that posed a fall hazard -electrical cords hanging off a shelf that was accessible to the children (addressed at inspection)

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times that children are in care.

    Observation. Upon inspection there was a large mirror behind the sink that posed a fall hazard.There was also a mat at the door with curled edges that posed a tripping hazard.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.

    Observation. Several nap mats are showing signs of wear and tear, have exposed foam and have areas that have been repaired with duct tape. Due to the exposed foam the mats cannot be adequately sanitized after use. The manager stated there is a budget to order new nap mats but they have not been ordered yet.

    Corrective action. Please ensure there are no exposed areas of foam on nap mats.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Staff purses are stored at child height. One purse contains personal care products.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that any personal care products are not accessible to children.

    A licensee must (a) ensure that each child has healthy food and drink according to the Canada's Food Guide. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): One fridge temperature was measured at 8C.

    Corrective action. To ensure safe storage of food please ensure fridge temperatures are between 0-4C. The fridge temperature was turned down during this inspection.
