  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): In the 3–5 outdoor play area, some toys in the mud kitchen had rust on them. Manager removed the rusted toys. In the 3–5 program, a dish of water for the dogs was within children’s reach. Manager made it inaccessible to children.

    Corrective action. Manager will ensure that outdoor toys are checked regularly for rust and that the water dish is kept out of children’s reach.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. In the infant and toddler nap room, the walls at children’s height were showing signs of wear and tear, with chipped paint throughout.

    Corrective action. Manager said that there is a plan to paint this room and that Licensing will be notified once it is completed.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): In the school-age program, an area on the wall had chipped paint exposing the drywall. During the inspection, the Licensee covered it with a painting.

    Corrective action. Licensee said maintenance person will be contacted for repairs and photos will be sent to Licensing.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During a review of attendance records in the school-age program, it was observed that children were not signed out on March 6th and 24th. Staff corrected this during the inspection. This is a repeat contravention from the previous year.

    Corrective action. Manager said staff will be reminded to ensure children are signed in and out daily.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During a review of the attendance records, departure times of some children were not recorded this month on the following dates February 8,21,23 & 27. Manager corrected this during inspection.

    A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

    Observation. Hot water in the infant and toddler washroom measured at 54.1 Celsius. During inspection the temperature regulator of the hot water tank was lowered to 49 Celsius.

    Corrective action. Please ensure water accessible to children's use measures below 49 Celsius.

    Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

    Observation. During inspection Licensing officer noted that one of the three staff working in the Group child care was a responsible adult. Manager explained that today this staff was working in the program as one the regular ECE staff had called in sick this morning. Licensing discussed with the manager to apply for an exemption to ensure the ratio of employees to children is no less than that permitted in CCLR Schedule E.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the ratio of employees to children attending a care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. During inspection licensing observed: - Doors of a cupboard in the toddler program were not fully closing making it’s contents accessible to children. During the inspection facility's maintenance person arrived and stated that a latch will be placed on the cupboard today. - In the toddler outdoor play area strings on a tarp were accessible to children. Staff removed it while licensing was present.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

    Observation. Upon inspection of the infant yard, there was an entrapment space under the ramp that a child could potentially fit through and/or get stuck.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the yard is enclosed and is free from harm.
