  Where permission has been granted by the child's parents for the child to administer his or her own medication, a competent employee must supervise and document the self-administration in the child's care plan. [CCLR Sec. 53(3)(4)]

  Observation. LO was informed that two children attending the facility have medication stored on their backpacks and have parental permission to self administer the medication. At the time of the inspection the facility had expired medication for one of the children and a care plan that was not up-to-date/reviewed yearly or as needed. On the care plan was noted that the child can self administrate medication. There were no records as when the child's has self-administrated the medication. Staff stated that will follow-up with parents to get an update on child's health status and to clarify if a care plan and medication is still needed.

  Observation. LO noted the emergency food was expired.

  Observation. LO noted a care plan that was not reviewed and updated.

• PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Play Area, Materials and EquipmentNon-critical

  Play materials and/or equipment are not suitable for the age and development of the children. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)(a)]

  Observation. Faucet in "junior" washroom does not work properly. Faucet is a push type that then is supposed to allow the water to run long enough for hands to be rinsed. Currently, when faucet is depressed and then released, water shuts off immediately. Additionally, tap is very heavy to depress (LO tested this three times). During inspection LO observed child use washroom and then exit washroom to use another sink in the program space. Staff informed LO that this has been the system since the children are not strong enough to hold faucet down while simultaneously rinsing the opposite hand.
