  Observation. Licensing observed that Asthma medication was stored in the children's backpacks hung in their cubbies.

• PROGRAM / Program of activitiesNon-critical

  Children are provided with a comprehensive and coordinated program of indoor and outdoor activities that is designed for the development and care of the children, and is appropriate for the age and development of the children. [CCLR Sec. 44(1)(a)(b)(c) and Schedule(G)]

  Observation. Licensing observed a lack of materials and activities in the outdoor play space as there were only table top like toys outside along with the climbers. A conversation was had with the Educators to ensure that more materials are available especially materials that will promote physical development. Licensing observed the sand box to be closed, upon conversation with the Educators they stated that it was because it was not undercover. Licensing stated that this was not a concern as all the children were dressed for the weather. The Educators agreed and opened the sandbox. Licensing observed that there was a moveable fence/ gate around the sandbox which is opened and closed to limit the number of children in the sandbox, Licensing had a conversation with the Educators about this and discussed how this limits the children's freedom of movement and ability to choose where to play as they have to ask for permission to go in and out of the sandbox. Licensing recommended that the Educators have a conversation on how to promote the independence to choose where to play while still keeping children safe in the sandbox.

  Where permission has been granted by the child's parents for the child to administer his or her own medication, a competent employee must supervise and document the self-administration in the child's care plan. [CCLR Sec. 53(3)(4)]

  Observation. Licensing observed two valid medications on site. However, medication administration permission were not on file.

  For each child requiring extra support, the licensee keeps a current care plan showing the required information. [CCLR Sec. 58(1)(2)]

  Observation. In discussion with staff, is is apparent that one child requires a care plan. Staff have agreed to a verbal plan with parents, however a written plan that is signed by parents is also required. Licensing explained that this does not need to be a formal document.
