Furniture or equipment for sleeping is used by more than one child at a time. [CCLR Sec. 15(2)(a)]
Observation. Licensing observed in the Dolphin room the following - the time of visit for today was the program's nap period: *Two children were observed resting their bodies on a mattress bed. The staff informed Licensing that the bed is intended for use as a reading nook and quiet time; however, children sometimes rest their bodies on it during this quiet/nap period. A conversation was held with the staff regarding hygienic concerns about children sharing the same mattress for resting, as the mattress cannot be properly cleaned. Children should not be sharing a sleeping mat. *In the dramatic play area, children’s sleeping mats were placed so closely together that they were touching due to insufficient spacing.

Observation. The licensing officers observed that a large ground surface on the outdoor play space used by the orca room was damaged by a tree's roots. There is a hazard for tripping and potentially foot injuries. The licensee is aware and had looked into having the issue addressed, however the weather condition/season is not favorable for a permanent repair at this time. At today's inspection licensing had recommended that the affected area be temporarily made unavailable to children and that a physical barrier be provided until the permanent repairs can be complete. The licensee informed that as per a contractor advise,a more permanent repair can be scheduled for late spring time due to weather conditions. The stairs were slippery at the time of the inspection due to the wet conditions and the existing green moss.
