Observation. Door handle to classroom broken, creating both a pinching hazard and security concern. When LO arrived the door was ajar and later again when passing IT#1, the door was ajar again.

There is an established program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene. [CCLR Sec. 46(1)]
Observation. Classroom #1- there was a large towel in front of the baskets that were meant to contain clean dry hand drying towels. it appeared as though it was available as a communal drying towel. Staff indicated it is used for cleaning toys. The clean towel bin had only a couple of bibs in it. Staff indicated a tub of paper towels for staff use, however there were several items bocking direct access to these paper towels.

Observation. Classroom #1 - LO asked staff where the forms for the diaper cream administration were, staff did not know. There did not appear to be any signed permission forms nor was there an opportunity to record when the cream was administered.

Observation. The sand boxes were not covered. LO asked staff where the cover was and she reported that in two years she has never seen a sand box cover. Classroom #1 & #3 did not have fridge thermometers. Classroom #2 has torn floor mats making it difficult to adequately clean and sanitize.

Observation. In two of the classrooms, all of the children's bedding was stacked on each other with bedding touching other children's bedding.

Observation. Classroom #3- there is a care plan posted, no photo, no indication of where the medication is stored, expiry date not indicated. Classroom #1 - a child was present who the staff indicated as having an ASD diagnosis ( he was in a restrictive chair away from the snack table, the staff indicated this was his preferred position). When asked to see the child's care plan, the staff were unaware if there was one, nor able to produce it for review.

Behavioural guidance is appropriate to the age and development of each child. [CCLR Sec.51(1)(a)]
Observation. During the inspection, Licensing observed a staff telling a child, "stop crying", there was no kindness or support offered to this young child. On another occasion, LO observed a staff grabbing a child by the arm and attempted to lift the child by the arm, LO asked the staff to stop. In one classroom a small fenced area had been created to put children in, they could not get in or out on there own.

Observation. IT#1 there were several helium balloons in the classroom, nap room and washroom. The doors to several of the classrooms have broken handles, damaged door handles making it possibly difficult to open and close these doors, when the door appeared closed there was still a gap which could pinch fingers. The fridge thermometers were not evident. One sand box not in use, no children playing on that separate playground, was not covered. The air conditioning in one classroom was turned on very high and the room was very cold. The noise volume in the classrooms was very high, music, being played and general acoustics.
