    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. 1) No safety gate at the bottom of staircase. 2) Outdoors: slide structure is not on resilient surfacing.

    Corrective action. 1) The Licensee will implement a safety gate for the staircase. 2) The Licensee will either remove the slide structure or provide resilient surfacing under and around the structure. In the meantime, children will not use the slide structure.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): 2 packages of disinfecting wipes were accessible to children in the washroom. Upon notifying the Licensee, both packages were stored in a locked cabinet.

    Corrective action. The Licensee will ensure hazardous objects or substances will not be accessible to children.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed the following: -Toilet bowl cleaner stored under bathroom sink that is accessible to children. During the inspection, the Licensee put a child lock on the cabinet doors. -The closet within the children's bathroom contains tools and cleaning productes that are accessible to children. On the second day of the inspection, a child lock was available on the closet door. -The bathroom upstairs has toilet bowl cleaner stored under the sink that is accessible to children. As per the Licensee, this bathroom is only used by the children during emergencies. On the second day of the inspection, a child lock was put on the cabinet doors.

    Corrective action. Please ensure hazardous objects and substances are not accessible to children.

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Insufficient supply of emergency food and water as well as expired food items in the emergency kit. On the second day of the inspection, the emergency kit was replenished with an appropriate amount of food and water.

    Corrective action. Please ensure there is enough emergency food and water to sustain the whole program, including staff, for at least 72 hours.

    Observation. 2/5 children do not have an emergency contact listed. As per the Licensee, she has attempted to obtain this information from the families.

    Corrective action. Please ensure an emergency contact, that is not the parents/guardians, is obtained for both children.

    Observation. Licensee's family member does not have a criminal record check on file. As per the Licensee, she attempted to apply for the criminral record check, but results did not arrive. Licensing provided both the manual and online crc bulletin to the Licensee.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a criminal record check is obtained for this member.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

    Observation. Licensing observed multiple days for April 2023 and one day for May 2023 where children's departure times were not recorded.

    Corrective action. Please ensure arrival and departure times, as well as absences are recorded for all children for every day that the facility is operating.

    Observation. Upon reviewing a child's file and discussion with the Licensee, a child requiring extra support does not have a care plan in place. Licensing explained that a care plan is to be created in collaboration with the parents and reviewed with them annually.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a current care plan is created in collobration with the parents.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing reviewed 4 children's files and 2 were missing an enrolment date. This was corrected during the inspection.

    Observation. Upon reviewing the Licensee's staff file, Licensing observed an expired CRC for an individual living in the home. As per the Licensee, she thought that only individuals working directly with the children required a CRC. Licensing explained that for service types: FCC and IHMA, valid CRCs are required for all individuals ages 12 and above that live in the home.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all individuals of the resident have a valid criminal record check.

    A licensee must have first aid kits that are readily accessible to all employees, including while care is provided off the community care facility premises.

    Observation. The Licensee said she takes the children to the neighbourhood parks for outdoor play. Upon review of the first aid kit there was no instant ice pack to use when off site.

    Corrective action. When taking children off site ensure there is an instant ice pack contained in the first aid kit.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed 8 children's files and noted 3 files did not contain the name and telephone number of a medical practitioner.

    Corrective action. Licensing acknowledges that not every individual has access to a medical practitioner and may use the services of a walk in clinic. The family may use the name of a medical practitioner or walk in clinic and if they have neither the family may state none on their form. The Licensee would follow up periodically with the family to inquire if they have any new information to add to their child's file.

    Observation. Licensing observed in the bathroom there is only one hand towel available for the one child in attendance. The same hand towel is used for other members in the family posing the risk of spreading bacteria and communicable diseases.

    Corrective action. Please establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
