- STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation. The staff qualification list was reviewed. One staff's CRC had a listed expiry date of 2025-12-02. The manager said that an updated document is available at their head office, which could not be shown to Licensing at the time of the inspection.
Corrective action. Ensure that the staff qualification list is updated and available on-site.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (h) any special instruction respecting the child's diet, medication, participation in a program of activities, or other matter relevant to the child's care, (i) given by the child's parent to the licensee in writing.
Observation. There are no written instructions from a child's parent pertaining to what to do in case the child ingests the listed allergen. As per the Manager, this is a mild allergy that does not require medication.
Corrective action. The Manager will obtain written instructions from the parents that outlines what to do in case the child ingests the allergen at the facility.

Observation. Licensing observed fire drills were not recorded for the months of January and February 2023. As per the staff, drills were completed for the two months.
Corrective action. Please ensure that monthly fire drills are recorded.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the inspection 6 random children's files were reviewed and one child's file was missing the gender.
Corrective action. Please ensure all children's files are complete.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. Licensing observed several bottles of cleaning and/or sanitizing solution stored on top of counters within easy reach of children. Licensing also noted a container of disinfectant wipes on the counter and a case of disinfectant wipes stored in a room that is used by children and within reach of the children.
Corrective action. Ensure all cleaning items and supples are stored out of reach of children including all areas where children may have access (kitchen, activity rooms, washrooms etc).
11200 - CCLR s.17 - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Licensing observed children's bedding being stored in a plastic bin in each child's cubby however there were numerous bins in which the child's bedding was unable to be contained within the bin and were touching the bedding in the adjacent cubby.
Corrective action. To prevent the possibility of cross contamination staff must ensure that children's bedding is stored in a manner that it does not come into contact with other bedding.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. The following was observed during the inspection: a sleep mat had come apart at the seam exposing the inner contents - foam; a sleep mat appeared worn in spots and these areas were repaired with tape, 2 clear plastic sensory tables housed in a blue frame were repaired with tape.
Corrective action. The above noted sleep mats must be repaired or replaced in a manner that is nonporous to allow the items to be cleaned and sanitized. The sensory tables will also need to be repaired or replaced in a manner that is in good repair for children to use.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing saw containers of shaving cream and bottles of baby oil located in a lower cupboard where children could access. Noted on these containers is the manufacture's statement of 'keep out of reach of children'.
Corrective action. The Manager relocated these items during the inspection; no further action is required.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. During the inspection of the outdoor play area Licensing noted some of the support posts into the brick walls have paint peeling and are beginning to show signs of rust.
Corrective action. These areas will need to be maintained to eliminate any rust. The Licensee is requested to submit a written action plan as to when this work will be completed.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES
A licensee must (b) promote healthy eating and nutritional habits.
Observation. Licensing look into various children's lunch boxes and noted some did not have an ice pack and there were high hazard foods (dairy, rice, meat) in the lunch box. This poses a high risk of children consuming food that has been spoiled.
Corrective action. Ensure children's food is stored with an ice pack or in a thermos to prevent food borne illness.
