    A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

    Observation. Upon inspection the heater water in the washroom was 49.5 degrees Celsius.

    Corrective action. The manager said they will look at having the temperature regulated so that it is under 49 degrees Celsius. While they are getting it fixed, no children will be in the washroom unattended.

    Observation. Upon inspection, the date the children stopped attended was not noted in one or more files.

    Corrective action. The manager said the date the children stopped attended will be documented.

    Observation. Upon inspection, two staff files did not have their certificates verified by the ECE registry.

    Corrective action. The manager said he will validate the two certificates.

    Observation. Upon inspection, one staff file did not have a criminal record check on file. The manager showed documentation that it has been applied for and said she will not work alone with children

    Corrective action. Ensure the criminal record check is obtained.

    Observation. Upon inspection the following was observed/advised by the manager: - The fire drill was not documented or done on 4 different months - The evacuation drill was done but not documented The manager advised they will be done and documented moving forward.

    Corrective action. Please ensure there is a record of compliance with monthly fire drills and yearly evacuation drills.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. During the routine inspection of the outside playground the following was noted: - four large tired were holding water (approximately 3 inches of water in depth) easily accessed by the children.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the standing water in the tires is emptied and children do not have access to the standing water. .

    A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

    Observation. During the routine inspection the water at the sinks near the toilets measured 50 degrees Celsius. Licensing observed staff monitor hand washing in the bathroom and assisting children with hand washing.

    Corrective action. Please ensue the water is heated to no more that 49 degrees Celsius.

    A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.

    Observation. During the routine inspection licensing noted the absence of the Screen time and Active Play Policy. Staff on site said that they do not use screen times at the facility and that they go outside daily for daily walks through the forest and on the playground.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that an Active Play and Screen time Policy is available to all staff and parents.

(Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the routine inspection 5 staff files were reviewed and two staff files were missing a validation of the ECE certificate.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a ECE and ECE A certificates are validated. If certificate has been reviewed, please renew the validation with new expiration date.

    Observation. During the routine inspection 5 staff files were reviewed the following was observed: -1 staff had an expired CRC which was not site specific - 2 staff members had no CRC on file. By the time licensing finished the inspection the manager and staff were observed filling out Share forms for their CRC's to be processed.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all staff files are complete.

    Observation. No care plan available for a child requiring extra support. Support worker for a child in care indicated that a 3rd party provides some tools and methods for supporting a child requiring support, on a regular basis.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that any child requiring extra support has a care plan developed in consultation with appropriate persons, to assist staff in providing appropriate care and supervision.

    Observation. On review of five staff files, Licensing observed the following: - Three staff did not have any written references, or information as to whether references were sought for these individuals. - The Manager had two references on file when the requirement is three. Licensing does acknowledge that there is a staff evaluation system in place for all staff.

    Corrective action. Please ensure staff are appropriately screened prior to employment.
