• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed medications located in the bathroom cupboard accessible to children in care. The licensee moved the items to be inaccessible while licensing was on site.

  Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing noted times of departure were not recorded on yesterday's daily attendance, and children did not have times of arrival today. The licensee recorded the information while licensing was on site.

  Corrective action. Ensure the time of arrival and departure are indicated for each day children are present.

  A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

  Observation. Licensing noted the water temperature in the bathroom measured 54 degrees Celsius.

  Corrective action. Ensure heated water accessible to children is no more than 49 degrees Celsius.

  A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

  Observation. One cloth hand towel was observed for children to dry their hands on in the bathroom. A conversation was had with the Licensee about the use of single use towels.

  Corrective action. Ensure single use towels are used at the facility.

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

  Observation. Licensing noted there were no records of an emergency drill being completed in 2020. The Licensee said it was practiced, however it was not recorded.

  Corrective action. Ensure that records are kept respecting compliance with section 22(2)(b) and (c) of the CCLR.

  A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.

  Observation. Licensing noted there were no records of fire drills being completed for May, October, and December 2020, and February 2021. The Licensee said they were not practiced.

  Corrective action. Ensure fire drills are practiced at least once each month.
