    Observation. Of the four staff files reviewed; one did not include a site specific CRC.

    Corrective action. A staff confirmed that the program will apply for a CRC for this staff.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a child emptying their garbage into a garbage can located under the kitchen sink, where cleaning supplies such as bleach is stored. Licensing brought this to the manager's attention who latched the cabinet so that children could not have access.

    Corrective action. The manager confirmed that children will not have access to cleaning supplies under the sink.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed protruding nails, within the reach of children, in a wooden playground structure.

    Corrective action. The manager confirmed that the nails will be removed at the end of the day today.

  • MEDICATION

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.

    Observation. Medication was not readily accessible to employees. When Licensing brought this to a staff's attention, the medication was brought to the outdoor play space and accessible; however the instructions for administration were not clear.

    Corrective action. The manager assured that medication will be accessible in future and will ensure that medication is accompanied by clear instructions prior to the child returning.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed: - electrical cords in three nap rooms that were not secured and accessible to children, posing a risk of potential entanglement - a free-standing bookshelf in the preschool that is not secured and could pose a hazard if it were to fall

    Corrective action. Staff removed any unsecured cords from within children's reach during the inspection. Ensure that a healthy and safe environmentn is provided at all times while children are in care.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. A wall in the group 30 months to school age program where chairs are often stacked has many chipped areas exposing the drywall which is porous and not able to be easily cleaned.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the community care facility is in good repair, clean and easy to be cleaned.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following was observed inside the facility: - A camera wire was not secured to the wall and accessible to the children in the Infant/Toddler nap room, posing a hazard for the children if they were to pull it. - A wire from a floor lamp was accessible to the children in the 3-5 nap room, posing a tripping hazard. The following was observed in the Infant/Toddler outdoor play area: - Large rusted screws approximately 3/4 inch wide, portruding from the ground near the entryway of the playground, posing as a tripping hazard. - The sandbox is not covered which is accessible to the neighbouring animals, posing as an area for possible animal feces. - There are vines with thorns from the blackberry bushes which are creeping onto the fencing and sandbox of the Infant/Toddler playground, posing a hazard for the children.

    Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. The following was observed inside the facility: - A gym mat in the Infant/Toddler room is beyond repair as the foam is exposed and the surface cannot be cleaned and disinfected - A change mat in the 3-5 bathroom is ripped and the foam is exposed, making the surface hard to clean and disinfect The following was observed in the Infant/Toddler outdoor play area: - A section of the fence surrounding the the perimeter of the playground was reported to have been pushed down by a car in the summer. The large lake is now accessible to the children. - The fencing of the playground is climmable. In addition, it has several large gaps at the base, causing an entrapment concern. In addition, the gaps are large enough for a child to crawl into and have full acess to the lake and be unable to be rescued as an adult will not fit into the space.

    Corrective action. Due to the high risk of contraventions in the Infant/Toddler play area, the playground was closed and a plan will be submitted to Licensing. Ensure all equipment, furniture and fixtures are clean and in good repair.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING

    The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

    Observation. A random selection of children's files were reviewed. Out of the 6 files reviewed, 2 care plans were not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent. These care plans were last reviewd in October 2020 and November 2020.

    Corrective action. Ensure care plans are reviewed at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

    Observation. A random selection of staff files were reviewed. Out of the 6 files reviewed, 1 had an expired ECE Validation.

    Corrective action. Staff holding an Educator or Assistant Certificate are required to have their certificate verified by the system maintained by the Early Childhood Educator Registry.

    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

    Observation. The following was observed during inspection: -a small child sized couch has a hole exposing the foam underneath the plastic, and a rip on the seam. This makes it difficult to sanitize. - The 6 chains of the swing set (3 swings) on the daycare/preschool playground have completely rusted.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all indoor and outdoor equipment is in good repair. Please provide a plan as to how this will be addressed.
