• OR SUPERVISION

  Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Group Child Care - Staff to Child ratio not maintained. (ECE/ASST/ASST)

  Corrective action. An ECE arrived during the inspection, correcting the staff to child ratio as requried.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

  Observation. Staff explained that the annual emergency drill has been practised but not recorded.

  Corrective action. The staff will ensure to practice and record emergency drills.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Immunization status was not obtained for two employees.

  Corrective action. Immunization status was obtained for both staff during the inspection.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (b) for each employee, the records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements].

  Observation. The Licensee has not obtained the following records for one employee: criminal record check, resume, certificate validation through the ECE Registry and resume.

  Corrective action. The Licensee confirmed that the required documentation will be obtained.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following potential hazards: - an unsecured blind cord accessible to children - a wired outlet cover on the wall in the nap room at children's height that has come unsecured slightly exposing the opening in the wall where the wires and bolts are located - the manager explained that this was for a fax machine and the wires are not electric.

  Corrective action. The manager secured the blind cord so that it no longer presents a hazard, during the inspection. The manager confirmed that the cover on the wall for the previous fax machine will be secured.

• MEDICATION

  If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

  Observation. Written directions obtained by the staff regarding the adminstration of medication for a child in care were unclear.

  Corrective action. The manager confirmed that she will obtain permission to adminster medication including clear directions prior to the child returning.
