A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. insecticide was accessible outside in the children's play area
Corrective action. Ensure that there is no hazardous substance accessible to children.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. The emergency plan was not available for review, the Manager said that she has not gone to their alternate location and does not know where that location is. The emergency equipment to respond to and recover from an emergency was not sufficient for the number of children and staff at the facility.
Corrective action. Ensure that there is an emergency plan that sets out procedures to respond and recover from any emergency.
13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation. 2 children in care and one did not have emergency contact and both did not have medical practitioner name and telephone number.
Corrective action. Ensure that each child has an emergency contact and name and contact for a medical practitioner.

In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.
Observation. The policies and procedures, and staff criminal record check are not available on site.
Corrective action. Ensure that all records referred to in section 56-58 are available in a single place in the community care facility.

A licensee must ensure that children have at all times immediate access to an employee who (a) holds a valid first aid and CPR certificate, provided on completion of a course that meets the requirements of Schedule C.
Observation. There is no staff available with first aid and CPR
Corrective action. Ensure that at all times there is a staff that has first aid and CPR according to Schedule C.

10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. The Manager was unable to locate an emergency kit with supplies to respond to and recover from an emergency. The Manager also said she did not have a fire extinguisher.
Corrective action. Ensure that materials such as fire extinguishers and emergency kits are available at all times.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.

Observation. The Manager said she has not completed an emergency drill yet. It was discussed to be completed yearly.
Corrective action. Ensure that an emergency plan is practiced being implemented at least once a year.

The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.
Observation. A criminal record check for a person over the age of 12 who lives in the home has not been completed.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. One of 2 playpens used by children is not in good repair and the side does not fully open and latch. There is a concern that a child could be injured when the play pen is not fully open.
Corrective action. Ensure that the furniture and equipment is in good repair.
