  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The red truck in the Group Child Care (30m-SA) program had sharp areas on the doors and windows, pinching hazards on the inside of the doors, sharp rust areas on the base of the doors, and missing safety foam along the sides of the doors. There was a TV located in Daycare 1 that was not secured with a potential to fall on a child. There was a wasp nest located towards the entrance of the Infant Toddler playground.

    Corrective action. Please provide a plan outlining how you have addressed the above concerns.

    Observation. It was observed that 2 of the 3 toilets in the IT 1/2 bathroom were inaccessible. There were items stored on it.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following was observed. Photos were taken and available upon request. -the Diaper pail was uncovered in the IT 1/2 bathroom, -A stroller was stored between the toilet, diaper pail and the change table in IT 1/2. -the lunch was prepared approximately 1-2 hours prior to eating time, At the inspection the food temperature was measured at 56.2 degrees Celsius.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided.

    Licensees must not make any structural change to a community care facility unless the licensee first (a) submits plans for the change to a medical health officer.

    Observation. The Manager informed Licensing that they increased the size of the outdoor play yard. It was discussed that they would need approval from Child Care Licensing and the Township of Langley for this change.

    Corrective action. Ensure plan are submitted to Licensing and the Township of Langley.

    Observation. A child requiring medication agreed to be given in the registration forms, did not have any medication available.

    Corrective action. Ensure that medication agreed to be given is readily accessible to employees.

    Observation. Medication was accessible in a child's backpack in the classroom and hallway.

    Corrective action. Ensure that medication is not accessible to children.

    Observation. At time of inspection there were 3 children under the age of 36 months in the Group Child Care ( 30 months- School Age)

    Corrective action. Ensure that the children are divided into groups containing no more than permitted in Schedule E.

    Observation. There was no Infant Toddler Educator scheduled to work in the IT 1 class after 3:45pm. There was no Early Childhood Educator scheduled to work in the Daycare 1 classroom.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the staff ratio is no less than permitted in Schedule E. Please submit your staffing plan.

    A licensee must ensure that children are adequately supervised by qualified employees in sufficient numbers to meet the needs of each child.

    Observation. During today's inspection there were two infant/toddler rooms in operation. One infant/toddler room had three children and one staff member working in the classroom. The staff member has her Early Childhood Education certificate. This room is required to have a qualified Infant/Toddler educator present at all times.

    Corrective action. Ensure that children are adequately supervised by qualified employees.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed five staff files. One of these staff did not have a valid criminal record check and one staff did not have site specific criminal record check.

    Corrective action. Ensure all staff files are complete.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed five staff files. Three of these files did not contain evidence of the staff member's immunization status.
