  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed two roller blinds in use that are heavily peeling; flakes were observed on the floor. This is a recurring contravention.

    Corrective action. The staff explained that there is a plan to replace the blinds.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - roller blinds in poor condition; peeling with broken unsecured cords accessible to children - air freshener spray within children's reach in the school-age bathroom; a staff removed from children's reach during the inspection

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the 2 sofas in the OSC Program had large rips/openings, 1 opening was stuffed with a plastic bag filled with cotton. Manager stated that they will repair or replace them. Licensing observed that the ceiling in the bathroom had an exposed area, Manager stated that in the winter the roof was leaking and the worker exposed the area of the ceiling to inspect the leak. The roof was temporarily fixed and it will be replaced by a new roof. The Manager will have someone repair the exposed ceiling.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that furniture, equipment and fixtures are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (d) copies of any diplomas, certificates or other evidence of the person's training and skills.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed 5 staff files and noted that 1 staff's certificate was expired October 2020, Manager has asked the staff to provide a copy of the new certificate as the staff was off work and returned to work last week.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that you obtain copies of any diplomas, certificates or other evidence of the person's training and skills.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,

    Observation. Licensing reviewed 5 Staff files and noted 2 were missing validation of their certificates. 1 was corrected on site.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a system is in place to verify staffs certificates.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed 5 staff files and noted that 2 were missing references, 1 file had 1 reference and the other had 2 references, best practice is to obtain 3 references per staff.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that character references are obtained in respect to the person.

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

    Observation. Licensing observed that the fire drill records for the school aged program were incomplete. No record was made after December 2019 although Manager did state that the drills had been conducted along with the 3-5 program, who did have updated records.

    Corrective action. Please ensure accurate records are kept.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING

    The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

    Observation. On review of Care Plans posted, Licensing observed that 4 out of 6 required annual review to ensure that all information was current to enable staff to appropriately care for the children. Manager was unaware of this requirement.

    Corrective action. Please ensure care plan information is reviewed with parents on an annual basis as per Section 58(2)(b)
