Observation. The care provider's first aid was not renewed. This is a repeat contravention. The care provider stated that the renewal class was booked but they were unable to attend. A new date was not booked

Observation. Ladders are stacked beside the house where the children have access. One ladder is fixed to the wall and secure but a smaller ladder is stacked on top and unsecured
Corrective action. Secure or prevent access of the ladders to the children in care

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. The backyard fence that separates the front of the home from the back of the home was under repair using a piece of lattice as a fence panel leaving a gap large enough for a child to fit under. The manager explained that the contractor had not returned to install the final panel from the original repair earlier in the summer and this lattice was a temporary fix.
Corrective action. Ensure the backyard is fully fenced with no areas of escape or entrapment for children.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. A review of emergency plan with licensee found that food was expired and required replacement. The fire extinguisher requires servicing.
Corrective action. Ensure that the emergency supplies are replaced when expired and that the fire extinguisher has been serviced.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Equipment and/or fixtures were in disrepair, including: 1. The fence along the side of the house in the backyard had several boards that could be easily pushed out of place revealing holes in the fence where children could escape. 2. The walls in the children's play room had several areas where the drywall is chipped at child level.
Corrective action. Ensure the facility is in good repair while the children are in attendance
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. Inspection of the backyard play area found the following: 1. The hot tub located in the back deck had the lid removed partially. Several planks were removed from the deck around the hot tub leaving an area that a child could fall through. Although the licensee had secured the area with snow fencing to block it off, the snow fencing was not sufficient to stop a child from falling through or accessing this area. 2. A plumbing stack with an open top and a electrical wire that was taped off with electrical tape was found at the side of the house in an area that is accessible to children. Licensing asked the licensee about this but she was unsure what both of those things might be for. 3. Ladders and construction debris are stored in the play area that children have access to.
Corrective action. Ensure children do not have access to hazards
11200 - CCLR s.17 - OR SUPERVISION
A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation. A review of daily attendance records and children's files found that on September 22 and September 29, 2022 there were more than 4 children younger than 48 months in attendance.
Corrective action. Ensure the facility is in operation in accordance to schedule E regarding ages and numbers of children in care for licensed Family Child Care
14360 - CCALA s.7(1)(b)(i) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.
Observation. No individual record for one child in attendance at the facility. The child has a sibling that attends the facility on different days so there is emergency contact information for the family on file but is specific to another child.
Corrective action. Ensure all children in attendance have a file with information specific to that child.
19320 - CCLR s.59(a) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep (a) a copy of the written statement, referred to in section 19 of the Act, that the licensee delivers to persons who prepay part of the cost of services
Observation. A review of four files found that there was no repayment agreement contained in one child's file.
Corrective action. Ensure children's files are complete

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. During the inspection of the outside facility, it was noted that 8 separate groups of mushrooms were growing in the back yard. The children could easily access them.
Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to any hazardous substances.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation. During the inspection it was noted that the licensee had an expired CRC.
Corrective action. Please ensure CRC for every person ordinarily present at the facility is available and valid.
