A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. During a walk through of the facility, the following was observed: - Cleaners stored in an unlocked cabinet in the upstairs washroom were accessible to children. - A box of plastic bags were stored in an unlocked cabinet in the IT program which were accessible to children. - A spray bottle of bleach in the 3-5 program was on a table and was not stored out of children's reach.
Corrective action. Please ensure that children do not have any access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. In the School Age program, a cabinet was observed to have one handle broken. This poses a risk to children as the edge of the broken handle is sharp.
Corrective action. Please ensure the furniture and equipment within the facility are in good repair.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During a review of staff files, it was found that one did not have a current ECE certificate validation.
Corrective action. Please ensure staff files are complete as per the legislation.
