- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Some areas on the wall in the classroom had patches of paint peeling off. - A fence in the outdoor play area was coming off and had nails exposed.
Corrective action. The identified areas will be repaired by the Manager.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The sign in/out sheet was observed to have 16 children. Upon inspection of the classroom, there were only 12 children present. The staff said that 4 children were out for walk but were not signed out. This was corrected by the Manager.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. During an inspection of the outdoor play area, the following was observed: - A rusted, large, metal railway spike was on the ground near the sandbox area. - The sandbox is in need of cleaning. - There are broken toys with pointy edges stored in the sandbox. - Broken bikes stored in the sandbox - Wooden planks in the play area are rotting and in need of replacement. - Random toys are found stored in a pocket in the fence.
Corrective action. The Manager will address the contravention.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.
Observation. Three children requiring care plans do not have accurate information, including the course of action recommended by a health care professional.
Corrective action. The Manager will update the children's care plan to ensure they are accurate.
19220 - CCLR s.58(1)(b) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation. Three children's files did not have Doctor's information. Licensing explained that if the family does not have a Doctor, a walk-in clinic/urgent care clinic information will suffice.
Corrective action. The Manager will address the contravention.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A child's absence in the Toddler program was not recorded.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation. Copies of ECE/A certificates were not available in all staff's files. The Manager said that she has validated each certificate but did not print out the results.
Corrective action. The Manager will address the contravention.

Observation. There is an uncovered outlet in the Toddler room's nap area.
Corrective action. The Manager will cover the electrical outlet.

Observation. A care plan is not current and does not include the course of action recommended by health care professionals for the child. The Manager said that the care plan has changed and Licensing explained that the care plan must be updated with the new information.
Corrective action. The Manager will update the care plan to include the current information required.

Observation. Time out was not recorded on some days on the attendance sheet. The Manager said that sometimes parents forget to sign and Licensing explained that staff should check the attendance form to ensure all children have been signed out.
Corrective action. The Manager will address the contravention.

Observation. The fire extinguishers have not been serviced since April 2022. The Manager said that the servicing is usually scheduled by the strata and the servicing is scheduled to be completed for September 2023.
Corrective action. Please ensure fire extinguishers are serviced annually.
