• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Upon inspection, Licensing observed: -Exposed gyprock in one program. The Manager explained that BC housing is contacted for repair. -Cabinet door used for storage is in disrepair. -Panel in the outdoor play area is lifting, posing a hazard.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. Upon inspection of the outdoor play area, it was observed that wooden chairs used for play by children are in disrepair, posing a hazard for splinters. The Manager said she is aware of this as it has occurred due to the rain, and will work on repairing this.

  Corrective action. Please ensure furniture and equipment used by children are in good repair.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

  Observation. Upon inspection, one program had no record of fire drills for February 2021, and none of the programs had a record of fire drills for December 2021. The Manager said the fire drills were completed but not record. Licensing provided education in recording monthly fire drills.

  Corrective action. Please ensure current records are maintained

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

  Observation. During inspection of the outdoor play space the following conditions were found: 1)The loose fill material around the climbing structure located in the group childcare (30 months to school age) area has eroded exposing hard packed dirt in some areas and no longer provides a resilient surface for children that may fall from the climber. Staff provided info that the loose fill material has ended up at the bottom of the climber and at times, the gravel is shoveled from the bottom of hill below the structure to fill in under the climber. This was not the case at this time. 2) There was no resilient surfacing covering the concrete in the infant toddler play area. Staff provided info that the mats get covered in moss and debris during the winter and present a slipping hazard so they are put away for winter. The staff further explained that the slide is closely monitored by staff so that children are not injured when using.

  Corrective action. Ensure the outdoor play are is free from hazards and in good repair including resilient surfacing for under infant toddler equipment and loose fill material located under climbing structures.
