- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. The following was observed: - A child was sleeping on a couch that appeared to be stained and used by other children. - A hose was not properly secured in the outdoor play area.
Corrective action. The Manager will create a system to ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. The following was observed: - Carpets were dirty and food crumbs were not vacuumed. - Areas on the floor were in need of sweeping. - Stains were visible on a fabric couch and a fabric chair. - A bike with a broken handle was stored in the outdoor play area. - A baby gate was stored in the outdoor play area.
Corrective action. The Manager will create a system to ensure that the facility and the equipment and fixtures within in are clean and in good repair.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. A bathroom cleaner was stored in an unlocked cabinet in the washroom.
Corrective action. The Manager will lock all cabinets containing hazardous items that are accessible to children.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - LICENSING
A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation. The Manager's name was not posted in a prominent place in the facility.
Corrective action. The Manager's name will be posted in a prominent place in the facility.
10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. The facility's emergency supplies were lacking other supplies such as: - flashlight with batteries - emergency blankets - battery powered radio
Corrective action. The Manager will review the recommended list of emergency supplies and keep these items in the bag.
13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must display a copy of the fire drill system in a prominent place in the community care facility.
Observation. The fire drill was not displayed in a prominent place in the facility.
Corrective action. The Manager will post the fire drill in a prominent place in the facility.
13030 - CCLR s.22(3) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation. One child's file did not have their Doctor's information.
Corrective action. The Manager will review all children's files and ensure they are complete.
19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation. The following information was missing: - Care card numbers in two children's files - Immunization status in one child's file
Corrective action. The Manager will check all children's files to ensure they are complete.
19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation. Two children's files were missing start dates.
Corrective action. The Manager will review all children's files to ensure they are complete.
19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.
Observation. A staff did not have their resume in their file.
Corrective action. The Manager will obtain this information and keep in the staff's file.
12060 - CCLR s.19(1)(c) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation. A staff did not have character references in their file.
Corrective action. The Manager will keep a physical file with all staff file requirements in the facility.
12050 - CCLR s.19(1)(b) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation. A staff did not have a copy of their CRC from the CRRP in Victoria.
Corrective action. The Manager will obtain this information and keep in the staff's file.
12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one staff.
Corrective action. The Manager will review the staff's file to ensure they are complete and keep a physical file in the facility.
12090 - CCLR s.19(1)(f) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation. A staff's ECEA certificate was not validated by the system maintained by the Registry.
Corrective action. The Manager will obtain this information and ensure the staff's file is complete.
