    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the diaper change pad to have a split down the seam. This encourages bacteria to be stored and possibly transmitted.

    Corrective action. Please ensure equipment is in good repair.

    Observation. Licensing observed cleaning solution stored in a hallway which was accessible to children. Discussed with the manager to ensure safety at all times

    Corrective action. Please ensure areas for storage of hazardous materials remain inaccessible to children

    Observation. Licensing observed records for fire drill which were not completed for the months of March, June, and July. Manager said that the drills were practiced since she has been working at the facility.

    Corrective action. Please ensure documentation is completed after a drill.

    Corrective action. Please ensure when certificates are renewed, a new validation is obtained.

    Observation. In discussion with the manager, it was evident that she had not been orientated in evacuation procedures as could not locate the emergency supplies. Further discussed as to the requirements of legislation

    Corrective action. Please ensure any staff is fully orientated on facility policies and procedures to ensure child safety at all times.

    Observation. Character references for the manager were generic and did not appear to be collected by individuals. There were only two references on file when three are required for the manager

    Observation. Licensing observed weeds in the outdoor play area which children have access to. Staff do a morning check for any safety related concerns such as garbage.

    Corrective action. Please ensure general maintenance practices are in place.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Licensing observed that children did not wash hands prior to eating lunch, after playing with toys. Licensing did observe a child washing hands after using the bathroom. Licensing also discussed with the staff and Director the process of sanitizing all surfaces after washing with soap and water. Sanitization products were not available for staff use.

    Corrective action. Please ensure appropriate hygiene practices at all times.

    Observation. Manager name was not posted. Director said that it used to be. Manager is on a leave at present.

    Corrective action. Please ensure any manager of the facility has their name posted to inform the families.

(4) Despite subsection (1), a licensee who provides a care program described as Occasional Child Care need not provide a program of outdoor activities. (5) Despite subsection (3), that subsection applies to a licensee who provides a care program described as Child-minding only if the program provides care for 3.5 hours or more each day.

    Observation. In discussion with the staff, daily outdoor play was not provided by request of parents or due to cold weather. Discussed further with staff.
