  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.

Observation. At the time of this inspection an above ground pool was located in the outdoor play area. Licensee advised that the pool measures 18 feet in diameter by 4 feet in depth. The Licensee confirmed that pool is off limits to children in care. There is plastic fencing surrounding the pool that is secured with posts, however, as discussed and pointed out to the Licensee during this inspection, some reinforcement and securing is needed to the fencing. Licensing provided the Fraserhealth Guideline for Outdoor Play Areas - Swimming and Wading Pools. Based on this guideline, the type of pool in the outdoor play area falls under Type C. It is the expectation of Licensing that the Safety and Perimeter Requirements as noted in Appendix C be implemented.

Corrective action. Immediate attention to the areas that need reinforcement is required, along with the Licensee's supervision plan to ensure children do not access the pool area. Licensing will complete a follow-up inspection.
