- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. The following were observed in the south bathroom: dirty paper towels were in an under sink cupboard (they were removed during this inspection), one toilet does not flush properly and cannot be used for bowel movements, a toilet seat ring has exposed foam making it difficult to sanitize. In the north bathroom the diaper change pad and a toilet ring are in need of cleaning. Walls throughout the centre are in need of cleaning, there is a large area of exposed drywall in the south nap room and there is a broken blind cord in the south nap room.
Corrective action. Staff will ensure that all areas of the facility are clean and in good repair.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation. A planter in the upper area of the yard has exposed nails that are accessible to children.
Corrective action. Staff will ensure children do not have access to the exposed nails.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Dividers between toilets are in need of cleaning in the north and south bathrooms. Two toilet seats in the south bathroom have black stains on them. A toilet in the south bathroom was taped shut as it was blocked.
Corrective action. The blocked toilet was repaired during this inspection. The manager will ensure that all areas of the bathroom are cleaned.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Antibacterial and antiseptic wipes were accessible to children under the bathroom sink in the north bathroom.
Corrective action. The wipes were removed during this inspection and the cupboards were locked.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Staff are not aware where the key to access the fire extinguishers is located. Staff need to have access to the fire extinguisher.
Corrective action. The key was located during this inspection and the manger will ensure all staff know where it is kept.
13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation. A care plan has not developed in consultation with the parent or any person requested by the parent for one child who requires additional support.
Corrective action. The manager will work with the family to develop a care plan for the child.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. One toilet on the south side of the facility is broken and taped shut. Staff stated this had been reported a few weeks ago.
Corrective action. Please ensure that this toilet is in working order.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A milk crate was located next to a fence in the upper outside play area. A drop zone was on the other side of this fence. It is a concern that children may climb on the crate, climb over the fence and fall to the ground below.
Corrective action. The crate was removed during this inspection.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation. Wooden tree stumps in the outdoor play area are showing signs of wear and tear and have slivers accessible to children. An area of wooden decking in the outdoor play area has split and loose boards.
Corrective action. Please ensure all areas of the outdoor play area are in good repair.
11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - MEDICATION
If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation. Over the counter products are available for two children for skin conditions. There are no specific instructions to let staff know when and how much product to administer.
Corrective action. Please ensure written instructions on when and how to administer the products are available.
16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation. Files for 10 children were reviewed. Two files did not have contact information for a doctor or medical clinic.
Corrective action. Please ensure all files have contact information for a doctor or medical (walk in) clinic.

Observation. A step stool in the yard washroom and the area around the toilet are in need of cleaning.
Corrective action. Please ensure the yard washroom is kept clean.

The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation. One care plan was not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent. Staff said they have talked to the family and there have been no changes to the child's needs although this had not been recorded on the care plan.
Corrective action. Please ensure care plans are reviewed at least once every 12 months and that evidence of this is available.
