    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. The interior of the fridge, the microwave, the stove top and interior of the stove are in need of cleaning. Area of exposed drywall are visible throughout the facility.

    Corrective action. The manager will ensure that all kitchen appliances are cleaned and she will submit a plan letting the Licensing Officer know when repairs will be made to the drywall.

    Despite the employee qualifications required by Column 4 of the table in section 1 of Schedule E [group sizes and employee to children ratios], a licensee must replace an absent employee described in Column 1 of the following table who is absent (b) for 30 consecutive days or more with a person described in Column 3 opposite that employee and the row in Column 2 labelled as "≥ 30 days".

    Observation. The facility manager has been absent for more than 30 consecutive days and an application to replace the manager has not been submitted to the Licensing Officer.

    Corrective action. The Licensee will submit an application to appoint a new manager.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (h) any special instruction respecting the child's diet, medication, participation in a program of activities, or other matter relevant to the child's care, (i) given by the child's parent to the licensee in writing.

    Observation. One child has their own hand soap and a stick of hand cream that needs to be applied as needed. There are no written instructions from parents regarding these items use. The hand soap is not in its original container and staff are unable to identify the brand.

    Corrective action. Please ensure written instructions from parents regarding the child's use of hand soap and hand cream.

    Observation. A care plan for one child does not include the course of action recommended by health care professionals if the child ingest food they are allergic to.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all care plans include actions staff need to follow if a child has a reaction to a food.

    Observation. A child’s file states the child has an allergy and that the child has an epi pen. There is no care plan and no epi pen at the facility

    Corrective action. Please ensure all children who require an epi pen have a care plan and that the epi pen is at the facility.

    Observation. On review of the staff screening checklist it was noted that no evidence of a valid criminal record check was available for any of the program staff. The manager stated copies of the criminal record checks are kept in the main office and she will have the checklist updated.

    Corrective action. Please ensure evidence of a valid criminal record check is available for all staff.
