• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. The following are in need of cleaning: all walls in the children's bathroom, walls and the garbage can in the kitchen, the couch covers/cushions in the play room, the interior of the stove and the stove draw. Burner liners on the stove are rusted and need to be cleaned or replaced. One toilet tank cover is missing in the children's bathroom and needs to be replaced.

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure all areas of the facility are kept reasonably clean and that a new toilet tank cover is installed

  Observation. Medicated cream for one child had expired in 2024.

  Corrective action. The manger will obtain cream with a current expiry date.

  The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

  Observation. A care plan for one child was not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure the care plan is updated by the parents.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. A record of a criminal record check was not available for one staff.

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure a record of a criminal record check is available for all staff.

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. During this inspection CCFL noted the following: Areas behind the toilets are in need of cleaning. A shelf in the bathroom is covered in dust and is in need of cleaning. A toilet tank cover is cracked and needs to be repaired or replace. One toilet seat is stained and is in need or cleaning or replacing. Areas of dry wall are exposed throughout the facility.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all areas of the facility are clean and in good repair.

  A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

  Observation. A wooden slat on the climbing structure in the outdoor play area has exposed slivers.

  Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to slivers on the climbing structure.

  A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.

  Observation. ECE certificates are not posted for three staff. The senior educator said staff are in the process of posting the certificates.

  Corrective action. Please ensure ECE and ECEA certificates are posted for all staff.

  Observation. Evidence of immunization status being obtained for three employees was not available.

  Corrective action. Please ensure evidence of immunization status is available for all staff.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry.   Observation. Evidence of certificates being validated by the ECE Registry was not available for three staff.

  Corrective action. Please ensure evidence of all certificates being validated by the ECE registry is available.

  Observation. Files for eight children were reviewed. The name and telephone number for a medical practitioner was not available for 5 children and the name and telephone number for an emergency contact was not available for 1 child.

  Corrective action. Please ensure the name and phone number of a medical practitioner or clinic and an emergency contact is available for all children.
