    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

    Observation. Expired criminal record check for the Licensee and individuals living in the home. Licensing reviewed the new online system to obtain criminal record checks and provided the bulletin outlining instructions to the Licensee.

    Corrective action. The Licensee will follow the instructions outlined in the bulletin provided to create an account with the Criminal Record Review Program and renew the expired criminal record checks.

    Observation. Insufficient food supply to sustain all children and staff ro at least 72 hours.

    Corrective action. Please ensure there a sufficient amount of food supply in the emergency supply kit.

    Observation. The emergency contacts for 1 child is the child's parents. Licensing explained to the Licensee that the emergency contact should be an individual who is not the parent and who is able to contact the parent when the Licensee cannot.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the emergency contact is an individual that is not the parents.

    Observation. Water from sink that is accessible to children exceeds 49 Celsius. Licensing measured a water temperature of 55.7 Celsius.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that any heated water accessible to children does not exceed 49 Celsius.

    Observation. In the children's outdoor play area, Licensing observed a pile of wood with exposed nails. As per the Licensee, they will be using the wood for garden planters.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that children do not have access to hazardous objects.

    Observation. Licensing observed that children's attendance has not been recorded since January 3, 2023. As per the Licensee, she forgot to note down attendance since then.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that children's daily attendance is recorded that includes absences, time of arrival and departure.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the fire extinguisher was overdue for servicing. Service was due for last Sept. 28, 2022.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the fire extinguisher is up to date and serviced.

    Observation. During the inspection it was observed that the water temperature in the bathroom measured 54.6 degrees Celsius. This is a repeat contravention.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the water temperature does not measure over 49 degrees Celsius.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that each piece of furniture or equipment for sleeping (a) is used by only one child at a time, (b) is clean and comfortable.

    Observation. Licensing observed a large mat (futon) on the ground for the purpose of 3 children to use for napping. There were fabric dividers on the mat to designate 3 separate sleeping areas. The staff said that children sleep head to toe and the bedding is laundered weekly.

    Corrective action. Licensing discussed with the Licensee that each child needs to have their own sleep mat and to have space between the sleep mats to prevent any cross contamination.

  • STAFFING

    A licensee must ensure that children have at all times immediate access to an employee who (a) holds a valid first aid and CPR certificate, provided on completion of a course that meets the requirements of Schedule C.

    Observation. The Licensing Officer noted the first aid certificate for the staff expired in February 2020. The Licensee said they were enrolled to renew their certificate in March 2020 however the course was cancelled due to the current COVID 19 pandemic.

    Corrective action. It is the responsibility of an individual who has the first aid certificate to renew their certificate in advance of the expiry date. Due to the current COVID 19 pandemic no first aid courses are being held. The staff will need to renew their certificate at the earliest opportunity.
