    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. During the inspection Licensing observed the following: -Plastic bags and soft plastics under the sink in the washroom. This is a potential hazard (correct by Dec 20, 2024) -Rusty muffin tin and tray in the outdoor play area. Rust can cause a potential health hazard (correct by Dec 20, 2024) -Rust on the fencing in the outdoor play area. Rust can cause a potential health hazard This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-CLLV2Q and # CLAN-C9NRZB -Rust on the gate and hinges and lock at the entrance to the facility. Rust can cause a potential health hazard

    Corrective action. Please ensure active supervision is provided in the areas where rust is present until this is corrected.

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. During the inspection Licensing observed the tag on the fire extinguisher. The date of next service was ASAP. In discussion with the Manager she stated the fire inspector serviced the fire extinguishers in August 2023. The fire extinguisher was observed within the area of fully charged.

    Corrective action. Please ensure fire extinguishers have a next service date to ensure supplies are in operation to be prepared in case of an emergency.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following during the inspection: -Two bottles of bleach and water were within easy reach in the washroom. These were corrected during the inspection. -Furniture abutted the walls and windows. The windows were open more than four inches. This could cause a potential climbing and falling hazard. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-C9NRZB -Some metal bars in the playground were covered in rust. Rust can cause a potential health hazard. Please ensure active supervision is being provided until this area is fixed. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-C9NRZB

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. In the classroom a sink and the surrounding counter top was observed. The sink, including inside the sink and the counter top were covered with toys in bins. In discussion with the staff she stated that this was an area where the staff wash the toys each day. No other sink in the room was available for hand washing.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the sink is not used for storing materials to be washed. Ensuring staff have access to a hand sink is a preventative measure against communicable diseases.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Furniture, equipment, and/or fixtures were in disrepair, including: -cabinets had wear marks and the raw wood was exposed -a plastic mat had puncture marks. This could potentially harbour bacteria.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the facility furniture, equipment and fixtures are in good repair.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. During the inspection Licensing observed the following inside the facility: -several pieces of furniture and equipment in the toddler room abutted the wall. These were next to four low open windows. The windows were open larger than 4 inches. This could present a climbing or falling hazard. Recommendations were discussed. Please correct this by December 15, 2021 -an indoor play kitchen had rusty hooks. Rust can cause a potential health hazard. -two blind cords were located next to a low shelf and a window ledge. This could present a potential hazard Licensing observed the following outside the facility: -a gate was rusty. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BQTMSH. The staff stated that the gate had been fixed but the paint had worn off. Rust can cause a potential health hazard -several bars in the playground were covered in rust. Rust can cause a potential health hazard.

    Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to any object or substance that is hazardous to their health and safety.

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.

    Observation. Medication was not readily accessible to employees. A child requires medication in an emergency. The child was in the outdoor play area and the emergency medication was stored in the kitchen. The serious health and safety risk was discussed with the staff. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BHEPZQ

    Corrective action. Please ensure emergency medication is readily accessible to employees.

    Observation. A child requires medication in an emergency. No care plan was observed in the facility to outline the course of action recommended by health care professionals for a child requiring additional support.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a care plan is created and posted in the facility to ensure the child receives medication in the event of an emergency.
