  • A licensee must (a) ensure that a community care facility has (i) emergency exits that meet the requirements of the BC Building Code, and (ii) a fire drill system that is approved as definedby section 31 of the Fire Services Act.

    Observation. The secondary fire exit through the garage is blocked by an SUV.

    Corrective action. The manager said they will ensure the car is not parked in the garage during child care hours.

  • A licensee must (a) ensure that behavioural guidance is appropriate to the age and development of the child who is receiving the guidance.

    Observation. Staff were restraining children in high chairs during circle time if the children were having a hard time participating in the activities.

    Corrective action. The manager said she will not continue with this practise moving forward.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: a. Fridge does not have a thermometer to keep appropriate temperature. b. There are no garbage cans with a lid c. Dirty diapers are thrown in the kitchen garbage can, no lid. d. Cabinet under the sink has a lock but it was not locked at the time of inspection. The following items were accessible to children and pose a hazard: Lysol wipes, Fabreeze, Bleach Solution, Dish Soap. e. Kettle that was plugged in and contained hot water was located near the edge of the counter top accessible to children. f. Lysol wipes and 70 percent rubbing alcohol spray accessible to children during diaper change time.

    Corrective action. Staff stated all concerns will be shared with the licensee and manager and corrections will be made asap.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.

    Observation. Licensing observed various blocks, toys and play materials blocking the exit.

    Corrective action. Staff stated they will remove everything away from the exit and ensure it stays clear at all times

    Corrective action. Staff stated they will ensure the manager's name is posted on the white board for families.

    Corrective action. Staff stated they will connect with the manager and ensure all staff credentials are posted.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed the attendance record and noted 3 of 6 children in attendance were signed in today

    Corrective action. Staff stated they will ensure they sign children in as they come in.
