Employees have access to reliable communications equipment in an emergency. [CCLR Sec. 22(4)]
Observation. The licensee and manager were not on the premise during the inspection. Licensing was unable to gain access due to an access code on the gate, when contacted by phone the manager did not have a reliable means of contacting the staff person who was inside the facility with the children and was attempting to reach them on their personal cell phone via WhatsApp. This is problematic as staff may not be easily contacted in the event of an emergency that requires immediate attention. Additionally, this places the onus on the staff member to ensure their phone is always in good working order.
